Why am I getting the error “The app couldn’t be loaded” when I try to open the app?

The Problem #

We’ve received reports of Chrome auto-enabling a feature to block all third party cookies when it updates. When this feature is enabled, you’ll see the error below when trying to login to our apps. 


Because our apps loads within the Shopify admin (it’s an “embedded” app), the cookies our apps depends on for the login process are considered third party cookies. Third party cookies must be allowed for our apps, and all embedded Shopify apps, to work. 

To solve this problem:  #

  1. In Google Chrome, in the top right corner, click More and then Settings 

  2. In the Privacy and Security section, click on Site settings

  3. Click on Cookies and site data

  4. Uncheck the box next to Block third-party cookies

  5. Login to our apps again.
