Search Engine Optimization

How can I track conversions on my website?

A conversion is when a visitor completes a desired action on your website. This action may be a purchase, newsletter signup, contact form submission, etc.

We're happy to help you set up your Analytics report and website to track conversions on your website. For help with this, simply contact your friendly Website On-Demand developer.

For most actions, you'll be asked to create a Thank You page on your website that Google Analytics can use the "Goal Point" for an action. The page doesn’t need any fancy design. If the action you want to track is a purchase, then your thank you page may just have the text, "Thank You, Your order will be processed next business day. For questions, please call…".

For those concerned about adding steps to the payment process, rest assured this page does not add to the steps buyers need to manually traverse through. If your website uses Paypal, then after buyers complete payment on Paypal, Paypal will automatically send buyers to your thank you page. Paypal normally redirects visitors back to your website anyways, the difference here is that Paypal in this case will redirect them to your ‘thank you’ page. For sellers, this is actually a good opportunity to answer any common questions people email you about. For example, on this page you can list a FAQ for questions like “when will my purchased item arrive?”, “who do I call if there’s problems?”, etc.

How do I chance my homepage's TITLE tag?

That change is actually something that can be done pretty easily in Joomla. If you’d like to do it yourself, please login to your Joomla administrator area then go to Content --> SH404SEF --> URL Manager then click the “Home page Meta” button in the top right corner. The title tag field there is what’s used on the homepage.

I'm new to Search Engine Optimization. Where do I begin?

About 25% of your success in ranking depends on your website’s content. The other 75% of your ranking depends on how many websites link to your website and the quality of those websites.

To begin, you'll want to optimize content on your website for search engines. This includes researching keywords your customers are likely to use to find businesses like yours then including those keywords in your content in places like the page title, headings, image file names and more.

Once your content is optimized for search engines, you'll need to begin link building. This is the process of getting relevant links to your website from other relevant, quality websites. Having quality content on your website that other people will want to link to is the first and most important step of link building. Once you have that content, you can begin making others aware of your expertise and your website's content by commenting on other people's websites, blogs, forums and anywhere else people interested in your field are likely to gather online.

Who acts on the SEO? Do you tell us how to do it or do you do it?

We provide the recommendations, however it’s the Client’s responsibility to implement any recommendations they feel would be beneficial.

We’re happy to implement the recommendations for you at our hourly rate if you’d like us to handle them for you.

I'm not a Website On-Demand subscribe. Do you offer Search Engine Optimization and other traffic-building services to non-Website On-Demand subscribers?

How will I know how many visitors I have to my website?

Website traffic reports are sent to Clients every month. Clients may also  request traffic reports at anytime or alternatively may request direct access to our Analytics tracking system.

Are search engine optimization and other traffic-building services included for free?

All Website On-Demand Clients receive the following Search Engine Optimization services at no charge:

  • A search engine friendly website.
  • Listing of your website in search engines and popular internet directories.
  • Listing of your website on Google Places.
  • Traffic reports and traffic optimization recommendations to our Clients.
  • Recommendations and advice on how to write content for search engines.

We are happy to provide complete Search Engine Marketing (including Pay-Per-Click and Search Engine Optimization services) and traffic building services to our Clients as an additional service. CMYK or RGB? Which do I need for my website?

CMYK and RGB are both methods used to represent colors. CMYK breaks a color down into 4 component colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black). RGB breaks a color down into 3 component colors: red, green and blue. In RGB for example, colors are created by combining red, green and blue in different amounts. For example, high levels of red and blue with no green make purple.

Most business cards, pamphlets, etc are in CMYK as this is the color format used by the printing industry.

What's important to know is that computer monitors and websites use RGB. Your graphic files and color samples should all be provided in RGB format. Ask your graphic designer for assistance with this if you discover that your logo and color samples are all in CMYK.

I don't have a logo. What are my options? Can you recommend some nice fonts?

We'd be happy to have one of our logo designers assist you with creating a professional logo for your brand. For logo pricing, please ask your Website On-Demand representative.

Alternatively, you may want to keep things simple to begin with and simply use a special font with your company name. For font options, please visit http://www.dafont.com. Most fonts on that website are free. If the font is not free, Clients are responsible for purchasing their chosen font.

Can you help me choose colors for my site?

This is a very useful color took and will provide you with an assortment of recommendations based on your chosen color.

To get started, please go to that site then click on the RGB: FF0000 text beside the bottom right corner of the color wheel. In the box that pops up, enter the hex code for your chosen starting color. If you don't have a starting color chosen, you should decide that first as it will anchor your other color choices and help to determine the mood your brand evokes.

Once you’ve entered your starting color, click on either complement, triad, tetrad, analogic, or accented analogic options in the top left corner of the page. This will change the color pallet recommendations based on the color’s position on the color wheel.

If you find the color recommendations are too bland, you can click the “Adjust Scheme” link below the color wheel and place with the saturation/brightness grid to brighten the recommendations a bit.

For most websites, I would personally recommend one alternate color, perhaps from the complement or analogic options.

If we were to do a French (or any other language) version would we just add more pages or would that be a page?

The French (or any other language) copies would be considered separate pages and would count towards your page count.

Usually, we use a translation tool where visitors select “French” (or the language of your choice) and then the website will display the French translation of content if it’s available. If a particular page doesn’t have a French translation available then the English is displayed. Alternatively, if only limited French content will be prepared, you could just add a page or two in French and have that accessible in the main menu.

How much text can we place on each ‘page’?

There is currently no limit on the amount of content that can be placed on each page. While Website On-Demand reserves the right to limit content per page at any time, we will do our best to accommodate every Client's unique needs.

How long will it take to get my website online?

Most websites are completed within 2-3 weeks although that time varies depending on the complexity of your needs and whether you have the content already prepared. Prompt feedback is also necessary to ensure your website is completely in a timely manner.

Can you help me write my site content?

Yes - we are happy to provide our Clients with copywriting services. Ask your Website On-Demand developer for details.

What nameservers do I need to set my domain to use?

To determine your appropriate nameserver setting, please contact your friendly Website On-Demand developer for assistance or email us at support@websiteondemand.ca.


Social Media

Can you help us to improve the look and effectiveness of our Facebook page?

We can help you to link your Facebook (or Twitter, Linked-in, etc) page to your website (e.g., Facebook like buttons on your website, group badges, etc).

While we don’t offer complete social media consulting services at this time, we’d be happy to refer you to qualified partners that can help you in this area.


Joomla Support

Joomla says my article is unavailable for editing and displays a little lock icon beside the article! Help!

This is a common problem. Joomla only allows one user to edit an article at a time. If you don't properly close an article (by clicking "Save" or "Save and Close" after editing), Joomla will assume you're still editing the article and so won't let anyone else in.

To correct this problem, go to the Tools menu in the Joomla Administrator area then select "Global Check-in". If you don't have a tools menu at the top of your page, it's because you're using Joomla 1.7. Joomla 1.7 users need to go to Site --> Maintenance --> Global Check-in instead. This will remove the lock from all locked content.

How does your service differ from a free website maker?

That’s an excellent question!

Unlike a free website maker, you receive real human technical support when you need it and your website is built for you by professional developers saving you considerable time and resulting in a much better looking website.

For personal websites, a free website maker can work great. Your business website is your business's image to the world though. It must look professional.

Here's where the money you pay goes:

  1. About half of the monthly fee pays for the original cost of development for your website. This includes design, content uploading, listing with search engines, google analytics setup, revisions, etc. This is why our websites are offered on a 2 year term as development time went in to their original development. After the two year term is up, Clients are entitled to a free redesign or can continue on a month-by-month basis.
  2. The other half of the fee pays for your website hosting, your domain registration, technical support and free advice/recommendations on increasing traffic to your website / getting more sales through it. Technical support and SEO-related advice/recommendations are available to you at any time.

 

If I don't want to pay monthly, can I buy the website?

Certainly! We offer a buyout option for Clients who do not wish to pay monthly. Please note that free website hosting and domain registration are not included with the buyout option. Technical support is provided free for a period of 2 months after the website is complete.

How do I make payment?

For monthly payment plans, payments must be made via credit card. Please note that we only accept cheques for Clients using the buyout payment option.

Do I continue to pay at the end of my term?

Yes - with Website On-Demand you pay monthly for as long as you keep the website. Agreeing to a longer term reduces your monthly payments. Clients are free to change to a longer term at any time. Clients are not able to change to a shorter term. We offer a buyout option for Clients that don't want to pay monthly.

What happens after I buy?

A Website On-Demand developer will be assigned to you and will contact you within 1 business day. Your Website On-Demand developer will be your point-of-contact for anything you may require.

Your Website On-Demand developer will guide you through the welcome process and completion of our entry questionnaire and then design and development of your website.

What is a "feature"?

Features are added functionality such as online storefronts, online appointment booking, event calendars, blogs and more that we can build into your website.

I already have website hosting. Can I use my existing website hosting?

Due to the nature of our service, Clients on the monthly payment plan must use the website hosting included free with their Website On-Demand service. Clients that opt for the buyout option are free to use any website hosting service they choose.

How will I update my website?

Every Website On-Demand website includes a Content Management System which will allow you to update your website yourself. Free training and support is provided for Standard Plan Clients.

For Clients that prefer us to update their website for them, we also  provide website updating services. Please contact your Website On-Demand representative for details.

Do I have to sign a contract?

Clients must agree to the Website On-Demand Terms of Use. For questions regarding the Website On-Demand Terms of Use, please contact a Website On-Demand representative at support@alcaris.com

Do I have to arrange my own web hosting and buy my own domain?

Website hosting and domain name registration are included FREE with your Website On-Demand service subscription. Domains are purchased on behalf of our Clients and remain the property of our Clients should they discontinue their Website On-Demand service. Clients are responsible for making domain registration payments after discontinuing their service.


Cancellation

What would happen to our site should (heaven forbid) Website On-Demand go out of business or be sold?

Heaven forbid indeed! If at any point in the future we were unable to continue delivering our services, we would provide you with your website and database files.

All of our websites are built using widely-used open-source software and are compatible with virtually all website hosts.

What if I'm not completely satisfied?

If you're not completely satisfied with Website On-Demand in your first 30 days, we'll completely refund your money. Our goal is to make Website On-Demand a truly risk-free investment for our Clients.

Can I cancel at anytime?

Clients may cancel their service anytime in the first 30 days in accordance with our Moneyback Guarantee policy. Website On-Demand has a minimum term of 12 months. For more information on this, please review our Terms of Use.
